Josephine Butler has a reputation for being the most isolated college but this certainly isn’t the case. The walk to the town centre is max. 20 minutes and the main campus only 10 minutes. Butler has by far the best rooms, 100% ensuite and a well equipped kitchen shared between only 6 students.

The Contagious Diseases Act was first passed in 1864. It was extended in 1866 and 1869, before being repealed in 1886. The Acts were introduced as an attempt to regulate ‘common prostitutes’, in order to reduce the prevalence of sexually transmitted diseases within the British army and navy.
