Why is it called Frankston?
The surveyor named the village Frankston, most likely after General Sir Thomas Franks, a victorious hero of the Sikh war in India in 1848-49. (Less likely reasons for the name were an itinerant settler, Frank Stone, or Charles Franks who was murdered by Aboriginals in 1836.)
